Job summary

The City of Greenacres is seeking a lead maintenance worker to supervise landscape and public works tasks across city facilities. You will guide staff, coordinate repairs, and ensure projects meet safety and quality standards.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least three years in landscape maintenance or related public works roles, with leadership experience. A CDL and several certifications are desirable; on-site work is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; three years of landscape maintenance or related public works experience with at least one year in a lead role.
• Possession of or ability to obtain certifications such as Traffic Control Technician, NPDES Stormwater Inspector, Maintenance of Traffic (Intermediate+), Playground Inspector is desirable.
• Public Works related certifications preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, supervision, and completion of work; ensure adherence to City policies.
• Support procurement processes; research cost-effective materials and services.
• Prepare specifications and requisitions; verify vendor qualifications and terms.
• Identify training needs and provide coaching to staff; mentor on performance.
• Serve as on-site backup in Supervisor's absence and oversee safety programs.

*The City of Greenacres' Compensation Plan allows for hiring at a maximum rate of up to 15% above the minimum range for the position based on education, experience and valid proof of certification(s) that are obtained through extensive program of study and training over and above the minimum requirements.

Salary is based on FY27 which is effective 10-1-26

REQUIRED INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTS:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all-inclusive and will vary with assignments.)

• Assists with the planning, supervision and completion of work with staff providing guidance on project/task completion; ensures staff is adhering to City and Departmental Policies in daily operations.
• Assists Supervisor with procurement by researching and identifying cost effective solutions for materials, goods, supplies, services, etc.
• Assists in the preparation of specifications, requisition documentation, seeks and evaluates suppliers and prices and ensures goods and services received are compliant with terms of purchase orders.
• Assists Supervisor with the identification of employee training needs, mentoring, and providing ongoing feedback on performance.
• Serves as the backup and makes operating decisions on-site in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Ensures staff is adhering to proper preventive maintenance schedules, operation and proper working order of tools and equipment.
• Performs research of workload optimization through operational efficiencies, new technologies, and best practices.
• Assists in the coordination of Division repair and maintenance activities and programs with other City Departments.
• Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment and personal protection equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety and enforces safety procedures and regulations.
• Performs roadway and storm sewer system maintenance and repairs including patching of potholes, repair/replacement of traffic signs, repair/replacement of sidewalks, minor asphalt overlays and cleaning of drainage structures.
• Performs ornamental landscape and sports turf maintenance functions including cutting and edging of grass, removal of weeds, trimming of hedges and shrubs and clearing of brush with the use of hand/power equipment and tools.
• Prepares various athletic fields, facility grounds and playgrounds for safe play through daily maintenance and other related tasks including but not limited to, tree planting/trimming/pruning, litter/debris removal, household chemical application and irrigation system trouble shooting and repairs.
• Performs roadway and storm sewer system maintenance and repairs including patching of potholes, repair/replacement of traffic signs, repair/replacement of sidewalks, minor asphalt overlays, camera inspection and jet-vac cleaning of drainage structures.
• Performs inspections, repairs and cleans walking pathways, sidewalks, tables, parking, court, solar and roadway lights, signs, grills, exercise equipment, and playgrounds.
• Ensures employees are adhering to proper preventive maintenance schedules, operation and proper working order of tools, equipment and vehicles.
• Enforces safety procedures and regulations.
• Serves as the backup to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor or Roads and Drainage Supervisor
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices and techniques of general construction, repair and maintenance of sidewalks, drainage systems, roadways, landscape maintenance or related field.
• Considerable skill in the use of common hand tools, mechanical equipment, specialty tools/equipment, machinery and vehicles used in the field of repair, maintenance and minor facility reconstruction/remodeling.
• Occupational hazards, environmental regulations and compliance, and safety precautions of the trade.
• Leading, coaching, and training employees.
• Computer software including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.

Ability to:

• Safely operate various types of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to hand and power tools, various landscaping equipment, mowers, small tractors, chemical application equipment, aerial lifts, water tanker and pump, backhoe/front loaders and clam shell/knuckle boom loader.
• Lead a team effectively, and foster team building and trust.
• Maintain confidentiality when necessary and a high degree of professional integrity.
• Plan and organize work assignments and resources to provide timely, effective and efficient operations.

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in landscape maintenance, construction or other Public Works related activities, with a minimum of one (1) year as a lead worker or supervisor; or any combination of education, training and experience to meet the minimum requirement.
• Possession of Traffic Control Technician Certification, NPDES Stormwater Inspector, Maintenance of Traffic Certification Intermediate Level or higher and/or Playground Inspector Certification is desirable.
• Possess Public Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide License or ability to acquire within six (6) months of employment.
• Possess FEMA IC 100 and IS 700 certifications or ability to acquire within twelve (12) months of employment.
• Possess and maintain a Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B license with air-brake and water tanker endorsement or the ability to acquire within twelve (12) months of employment.
