Intermediate & Middle School Athletic Assistant Coach Job Description

JOB TITLE: Assistant Coach of an Athletic Sport (an extracurricular assignment)

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Not applicable. Paid via stipend.

WORK DAYS: During the Athletic Season, following Athletic Schedules within the school calendar year

STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: Varies; outside contracted hours

WORK YEAR: During Athletic Season, within the school calendar year

SALARY & BENEFITS: Paid on the "Teachers Athletic Extracurricular" salary schedule via stipend. Teachers fulfilling coaching duties are eligible for benefits; Lay Coaches are paid via stipend and are not eligible for benefits.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Athletic Director (as designee)

SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY: Supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the sport, assists with practices, games, supervision, and maintains a positive environment. Promotes character, confidence, sportsmanship, and pride. Collaborates with Warren Central High School as needed.

Essential Functions:

• Supports teaching fundamental skills, rules, and strategies
• Assists with physical training
• Models sportsmanship and teamwork
• Monitors attendance, academics, behavior
• Supports injury response procedures
• Coordinates off-season events and professional development with Athletic Director
• Communicates with parents and manages equipment and uniforms
• Ensures athletes meet financial obligations
• Follows all rules and guidelines
• Completes administrative tasks

Non-essential Functions:

• Performs other duties as assigned

Entry-level Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience as a coach/player preferred
• Up-to-date certifications (Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Concussion, Heat-illness); additional for football
• Ability to perform physical and sensory requirements

Physical, sensory, and environmental requirements are typical for coaching roles, including physical activity and exposure to outdoor conditions.
