State of Washington—Fish Program in Dayton, WA is seeking a Creel Surveyor (Scientific Technician 2) for a 9.5-month season starting December 1, 2026. The role focuses on creel surveys to monitor Snake River fisheries, species identification, and data collection in field and office settings.

Expect extensive travel within southeast Washington, outdoor work in all weather, and daily interaction with the public. Valid driver’s license required and weekend/holiday hours are possible.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus relevant science experience.
• Biology, zoology, fisheries, or natural sciences background preferred.
• Coursework may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsabilités

• Conduct creel surveys for Snake River Chinook and steelhead fisheries.
• Identify fish species in southeast Washington.
• Collect data: sex, length, origin, scales, and genetic samples.
• Scan for CWT or PIT tags and recover/read tags.
• Record and tabulate survey data accurately.
• Enter data into multiple datasets using MS Office.
• Maintain field equipment and ensure safety.
