Working at Octus

Octus hires growth-minded innovators and trailblazers across the globe to drive our business and culture. Our core values – Action Oriented, Customer First Mindset, Effective Team Players, and Driven to Excel – define an organizational ethos that’s as high-performing as it is human. Among other perks, Octus employees enjoy competitive health benefits, matched 401k and pension plans, PTO, generous parental leave, gym subsidies, educational reimbursements for career development, recognition programs, and much more.
Role

This role combines the analytical rigor of buyside credit investing with broader exposure to stressed and distressed situations and direct engagement with the market.

You will take ownership of a portfolio of leveraged loans and high-yield bonds, developing independent credit views from the first signs of financial pressure through liability management transactions, Chapter 11 restructurings and emergence. Your analysis will be published under your name and reach institutional investors, trading desks, restructuring advisors and other market participants making decisions on the situations you cover.

At Octus, AI is an integral part of how we work. We use AI to accelerate research, process complex financial information and streamline analytical workflows, freeing up more time for the judgment and critical thinking that differentiate good credit research. We encourage analysts to experiment with new technologies, challenge existing processes and help shape how AI tools are applied across the research process.

What You Will Do
  • Own your coverage: Monitor a portfolio of leveraged loan and high-yield issuers, tracking financial performance, liquidity, capital structure developments, sponsor actions and restructuring catalysts. Deliver timely analysis as situations evolve.
  • Develop independent credit views: Conduct credit analysis across diverse sectors, identifying emerging risks, potential catalysts and opportunities across the capital structure.
  • Build financial and recovery models: Develop three-statement forecasts, liquidity projections, valuations and recovery waterfalls to assess downside risks and potential returns for different creditor groups.
  • Analyze debt documentation and transactions: Review credit agreements and indentures to assess borrower flexibility and creditor protections. Evaluate liability management transactions, distressed exchanges and post-restructuring capital structures.
  • Deliver actionable research: Write concise, thesis-driven analysis that connects financial performance, market pricing and capital structure dynamics to clear investment implications. Contribute to thematic research on sector stress, maturity walls and broader credit market trends.
  • Engage directly with the market: Collaborate with legal analysts and financial journalists, respond to institutional client inquiries and present research on client calls and webinars.
  • Innovate with AI: Apply AI tools throughout the research workflow, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and analytical depth, and experiment with new approaches to financial research.
What We're Looking For
  • Relevant experience: At least two years in leveraged finance, credit research, restructuring or related fields, including investment banking, restructuring advisory, direct lending, buyside credit funds, sell-side research, trading desks or rating agencies.
  • Strong financial modeling skills: Ability to build a three-statement financial model and forward projections independently, supported by a solid accounting knowledge. A modeling case study forms part of the interview process.
  • Investment judgment: Intellectual curiosity, strong analytical instincts and the ability to form and articulate an independent credit view.
  • Clear communication: Excellent writing skills, confidence engaging with sophisticated market participants and the ability to translate complex analysis into actionable conclusions.
  • Ownership and adaptability: Ability to manage multiple live situations, learn unfamiliar businesses quickly and deliver high-quality analysis under tight deadlines.
  • Curiosity about AI: Enthusiasm for emerging technologies and a willingness to experiment with new tools and develop smarter ways of working. Prior experience building AI-enabled workflows is a plus.
  • Client-first mindset: A strong understanding of what matters to credit investors and a commitment to producing timely, differentiated research.
