Job summary

First Interstate Bank in Sioux Falls is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Credit Analyst to systematically evaluate borrowers, prepare detailed credit analyses, and monitor loan portfolios. You will support relationship managers, underwrite complex requests, and ensure adherence to bank policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7–9 years of banking experience and/or equivalent education.
  • 4–6 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Experience with financial spread software.
  • Commercial banking experience preferred.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with relationship managers to gather and evaluate commercial credit information.
  • Prepare written credit analysis reports including financial statements, cash flow, ratios, and risk analysis.
  • Review tax returns, balance sheets, P&L, agings, debt schedules, and related documents.
  • Prepare financial spreads for various borrowers and guarantors.
  • Analyze creditworthiness, cash flows, leverage, liquidity, and collateral.
  • Author comprehensive reports using charts, graphs, and data analysis.
  • Evaluate credit quality and assign risk ratings.
  • Underwrite credit requests with limited manager guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and First Interstate Bank policies.
  • Assist with quarterly monitoring reports for classified/criticized relationships.
  • Complete financial performance covenant testing.
  • Manage portfolios and mentor junior analysts.
  • Develop training materials and assist with training delivery.
  • Serve as a resource on loan policy, structuring, and underwriting recommendations.

Job description

  • Collaborate with relationship managers to gather and evaluate commercial credit information for current and prospective customers
  • Prepare written credit analysis reports including financial statement, cash flow, ratio, industry, credit structure, and risk analysis
  • Review tax returns, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, agings, borrowing base certificates, debt schedules, equipment lists, credit bureau reports, rent rolls, lease agreements, and appraisals
  • Prepare financial spreads for commercial and real estate businesses, municipalities, non-profits, and individuals acting as borrowers or guarantors
  • Analyze creditworthiness, cash flows, leverage, liquidity ratios, collateral, borrower research, industry conditions, and risks
  • Author comprehensive reports using charts, formulas, graphs, data analysis, and written narrative
  • Evaluate credit quality and suggest appropriate risk ratings
  • Independently underwrite streamlined to complex commercial credit requests with limited manager guidance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and First Interstate Bank credit policies
  • Assist relationship managers with quarterly monitoring reports for classified and criticized commercial relationships
  • Complete financial performance metric covenant testing
  • Manage portfolios as assigned
  • Participate in monthly quality control reviews and provide feedback and mentoring
  • Develop training materials and assist with training delivery
  • Mentor lower-level analysts and support their credit acumen development
  • Serve as a resource to relationship managers and analysts on loan policy, loan structuring, and underwriting recommendations
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related field required
  • 7-9 years of banking experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 4-6 years experience in a similar position required
  • Experience with financial spread software required
  • Commercial banking experience preferred
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, meet strict deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
