Job summary

First Horizon Bank in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Credit Analyst II to support underwriting of commercial facilities and assist Portfolio Managers and Relationship Managers in managing client relationships.

You will interpret financial statements, perform financial analyses, and help prepare credit approval documentation, while monitoring covenants and portfolio performance within the bank's systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting, Finance or Business or equivalent with related experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience in Financial Services, Banking or Credit Analysis preferred.
  • Fundamental understanding of general bank operations and the commercial lending process.
  • Familiarity with analyzing financial data.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while delivering quality work.
  • Entry-level understanding of bank operations and lending processes.
  • Clear written and spoken communication with teammates and leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret financial statements and provide financial analysis for underwriting commercial loans.
  • Prepare financial analyses, statements spreading, and covenant monitoring.
  • Update/cut new requests, modifications, renewals, and annual reviews in the loan system.
  • Explain analysis in internal meetings with PMs, RMs, Credit Officers, and senior management.
  • Monitor assigned commercial loan portfolios and track covenants and company performance.
  • Ensure accurate reflection of loan terms, collateral, covenants, and inputs in credit systems.
  • Engage in portfolio management projects and strategic initiatives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Credit Analysts provide analytical support in underwriting/analyzing commercial credit facilities and assist Portfolio Managers and Relationship Managers in managing customer relationships.

  • Interpret financial statements and provide financial analysis support utilized in underwriting complex C&I and commercial real estate loans.
  • Work proactively to ensure production is prioritized appropriately and completed in a timely manner. Specific tasks include financial statement spreading; completing financial analysis documents; updating and creating new requests, modifications, renewals and annual reviews in the Bank’s commercial loan system; tracking and completing covenant monitoring, completing industry research and developing a strong understanding of the Bank’s commercial loan policy.
  • Participate in relationship team meetings with management and credit partners to explain information in the analysis when warranted.
  • Analyze and prepare credit approval documentation in FHB’s commercial loan system. Credit Analyst II is responsible for accurately reflecting all loan terms, collateral, covenants, loan grade inputs, policy exceptions, and calculating credit exposure for a given relationship in the commercial loan system.
  • Partner with Portfolio Managers to monitor and manage assigned commercial loan portfolios. This responsibility includes tracking covenants, recording financial statements, and monitoring company performance against expectations. Credit Analyst II is responsible not only for accurate calculations and inputs but also for thoughtful implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Identify and report material changes or trends in the financial statements of borrowers or guarantors observed in the preparation of credit approval presentations
  • Participate in internal credit conversations with PM’s, RM’s Credit Officers and senior management and in external meetings with clients and prospects.
  • Participate in portfolio management projects.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate consistently high level of ownership of portfolio management metrics and team initiatives, flexibility in responding to RM/PM/senior management and client deadlines, high level of detail and follow-through, and independence within the framework of the role in assisting in achieving business goals.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
