Meta's Standalone Apps Team is building an image-and-text community where people share experiences and recommendations. This early 0→1 effort offers high ownership and a chance to shape a product from its first version.
We are looking for a Creative Director to shape the experience end to end—from product thinking and flows to polished, shippable UI. You will mentor designers and drive brand systems across product surfaces.
We're Meta's Standalone Apps Team — we build new apps to reach new user scenarios and serve needs that aren't well met today. The project we're building right now is an image-and-text community where real people share first-hand experiences and recommendations — what to try, where to go, how to do something. It's where people come to get inspired and to make everyday decisions, learning from others who've actually been there. It's still early — a small team working 0 to 1.If you want high ownership, a short path from idea to ship, and the chance to shape a product from its first version, this is that kind of team. We're looking for a Creative Director to shape the experience end to end — from product thinking and flows to polished, shippable UI. You'll be one of the design voices defining what a brand-new app feels like.
Creative Director, Standalone App Responsibilities:
Own the design of major product areas end to end: framing the problem, exploring directions, and delivering high-quality, shippable UI.
Concept, prototype, and produce iconic interactive brand experiences for product surfaces, product campaigns, and activations
Define and evolve the brand design system — typography, color, grid, layout, and visual language — ensuring coherence across product surfaces, marketing, and physical touchpoints.
Partner closely with product and engineering to ship, and to keep quality high under a fast 0→1 pace.
Prototype and test ideas quickly using research and data to inform design decisions, and create storyboards, motion studies, prototypes, and design specs that guide development and clearly communicate creative intent.
Lead cross-functional projects from concept through delivery, driving progress autonomously and communicating proactively with stakeholders.
Present creative strategy and rationale to leadership, influencing product and brand decisions with a clear point of view.
Identify opportunities to innovate on brand expression through emerging tools, AI workflows, and new interaction paradigms.
Provide direction and mentorship to designers across the organization, raising the bar for craft.
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of in-product creative experience for consumer products with a portfolio of shipped work, including experience in brand, identity, or communication design with a focus on motion and interactive design
Strength across the craft: conceptual vision, storytelling, and art direction/visual execution
Demonstrated experience driving design for a major product area independently
Demonstrated ability to work fast and iterate with engineering and product in an early-stage environment
Demonstrated experience defining and scaling design systems across large organizations with multiple product surfaces and brand touchpoints, with a portfolio demonstrating expertise in interactive brand experiences and multi-format brand applications
Demonstrated experience in brand design, identity design, or communication design, with a focus on motion and interactive design
Demonstrated proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), After Effects, and Cinema 4D
Effective presentation and communication skills — ability to defend design decisions and bring diverse stakeholders along
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional design initiatives and influence creative direction at an organizational level
Previous experience defining and scaling design systems across large organizations with multiple product surfaces and brand touchpoints
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Experience driving the creative direction end to end for new product launches or standalone app
Experience with content/feed, discovery, community, or social products
Prototyping skills (motion, interactive prototypes)
Familiarity with Lottie, RIVE, or other animation delivery formats for mobile/web
Experience with real-time 3D tools (Unity, Unreal, Spark AR) for interactive brand experiences
Experience with creative coding, prototyping, or AI-assisted design workflows
Knowledge of UX/UI design principles and how brand systems integrate with product design patterns
