Uber is building a Scaled Studio to deliver high-quality brand and marketing creative across markets and channels, and this role sits at the center of that effort. As Creative Director, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of copywriters and designers while operating hands‑on to turn strategy into repeatable creative systems that work at global scale.
This is a hybrid role based in New York, NY, with a compensation range of USD 190,000 - 211,000 per year. You will help define the creative model for distributed delivery, partner with senior leadership on scalable flagship ideas, and ensure craft and brand standards stay consistent as output grows.
What you’ll do
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of copywriters and designers.
- Set a clear creative vision and quality bar for the Scaled Studio, creating an environment where teams can move quickly without losing craft or brand standards.
- Provide actionable creative direction and feedback across a wide range of work, with a primary focus on owned channels.
- Translate business, brand, and marketing strategy into creative direction for high-volume, multi-market execution.
- Develop creative concepts, campaign extensions, toolkits, templates, modular systems, and channel‑specific assets.
- Decide where original creative thinking is required versus where existing systems and assets can be adapted for efficiency.
- Ensure outputs are culturally relevant, channel appropriate, and aligned with the brand.
- Partner with senior creative leadership on how flagship creative ideas are translated into scalable systems.
- Establish the creative model for working with offshore and external production partners, including strong briefs, templates, guardrails, and reference materials.
- Review work from offshore resources and guide teams so internal creative time focuses on decisions that most affect quality.
- Build workflows that increase offshore autonomy while protecting the creative bar, and turn recurring execution issues into improved systems, guidance, and training.
- Create repeatable creative frameworks that prevent rebuilding solutions from scratch, and evolve templates, design systems, copy frameworks, playbooks, and modular asset structures.
- Partner with Brand Design and Brand Strategy teams to keep scaled creative consistent with the broader brand system.
- Identify opportunities to use automation, AI, and emerging creative technologies to improve speed, quality, and efficiency.
- Help establish quality tiers and review models so the right level of creative attention is applied based on the type of work.
- Partner closely with Brand Operations to manage intake, prioritization, resourcing, timelines, and workflow.
- Work with Product Marketing and regional marketing teams to understand business needs and translate them into creative solutions.
- Collaborate with producers and program managers to ensure work is scoped realistically and delivered efficiently.
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders and support teams in navigating trade‑offs between speed, scale, cost, and creative ambition.
- Represent the Scaled Studio in creative reviews and cross‑functional conversations.
What you bring
- 10+ years of experience in design or art direction for an advertising agency or in‑house for a global brand.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary creative teams (copy, art and design) and delivering clear, constructive creative direction.
- Experience leading distributed, offshore, agency, or external production teams.
- A portfolio showing exceptional creative judgment across brand, campaign, digital, and owned channel, including CRM work.
- A strong appreciation for craft and detail.
- Strong understanding of how creative systems, templates, and modular frameworks enable scale.
- Experience developing creative work for multiple markets, audiences, formats, and/or channels.
- Ability to thrive in fast‑paced environments, create structure from ambiguity, and balance creative quality with speed, capacity, and budget constraints.
- Strong communication skills to articulate creative rationale, partner with senior leadership, and drive alignment across creative and non‑creative teams.
- Strong conceptual thinking, including the ability to distinguish bespoke needs from scalable work while aligning creative ambition with business goals.
