Job summary

CMC is seeking a maintenance associate to support our steel manufacturing and recycling operations in Durant, OK. You will assist maintenance personnel, participate in safety programs, and communicate production issues to prevent downtime.

You will perform routine maintenance, inspect equipment, troubleshoot problems, and follow start-up/shutdown procedures. The role requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work rotating shifts including weekends, and contribute to continuous improvement.

• Basic computer skills and ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in conditions with temperature extremes, chemicals, dust, and noise.
• Demonstrated dependability in attendance and ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed.
• Participate in CMC Safety Programs and uphold safety culture.
• Communicate production issues and needs effectively with others.
• Ensure equipment inspection reports are completed each shift.
• Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in work methods and procedures.
• Maintain daily housekeeping in the work area.
• Troubleshoot problems using job knowledge and teamwork.
• Understand start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
• Follow directions from operations management and operate safely.

What You’ll Do

• Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
• Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
• Effectively communicate with others about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
• Ensure equipment inspection reports are filled out each shift
• Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed without the assistance of maintenance personnel
• Responsible for continuous improvement such as suggesting improvements in work methods and procedures
• Responsible for daily housekeeping duties including but not limited to immediate work area
• Troubleshoot work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others
• Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
• Ensure the tasks and activities as directed by operations support management are carried out in a safe and timely manner
• Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by always following safety rules and regulations including proper wearing of company PPE
• Duties involve prompt attention to signals for service to avoid bundling and loading delays, using care in picking up loads, clearing obstacles, properly positioning and handling loads, and manipulating levers to avoid excessive swinging
• Exercise care to select and load scrap in accordance with heat requirements and established charge conveyor loading procedures to meet furnace requirements and prevent damage to the conveyor
• Inspects scrap and dumping operations
• Operate a magnetic crane attachment as required
• Receive direction from supervisor and work from oral instructions, charge schedules and established operating procedures

• Ability to work overtime as required, including planned schedules and unplanned emergency situations
• Ability to work effectively as a team player in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
• Ability to work in environments with exposure to temperature extremes, chemicals, dust, fumes, mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and stand for extended periods of time
• Demonstrated dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs

Your Education

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
