Job summary

Georgia-Pacific in Gladys, VA, is seeking a Crane Operator to operate Andritz Portal Cranes to unload and place logs, ensuring the mill is supplied from inventory. The job entails indoor/outdoor duties, high-conditions work, and strict safety compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year or more of experience in industrial manufacturing.
• Experience using a computer or tablet for documentation and/or record‑keeping functions.

Responsibilities

• Operate the mill's gantry crane and control systems safely and efficiently.
• Supply logs to maintain debarking and stranding operations.
• Learn to operate Portal Cranes, Strander Area and Loader Operations to meet specifications.
• Operate log handling equipment to maintain wood to slashers.
• Provide ground support for production while keeping a safe, clean area.
• Work in high and confined spaces for up to 12 hours.
• Communicate effectively with team members in a team-based environment.
• Follow all safety rules and wear PPE as required.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, climbing, and reaching for up to 12 hours.
• Learn and comply with environmental and safety guidelines and permits.
