Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• NCCCO CERTIFIED is required for swing cab to operate the crane safely in conformance with OSHA regulations.
• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
• Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads or direct others to do same.
• Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for high lifting.
• Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites, industrial facilities or other third-party jobs.
• Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to instructions.
• Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and load-line.
• Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
• Load or unload bundles, equipment or materials to/from trucks; move bundles using material handling equipment.
• Material handling and strenuous physical labor (50-90 lbs).

EBM Construction, Inc. – Crane Operator

Reports to: Operations Manager

Hours per week: 40 minimum • Non-Exempt, Hourly

General Summary of the Position

EBM Construction is seeking an experienced, safety-focused, and dependable Crane Operator to join our team. The initial assignment for this position will be located in Daykin, Nebraska, and is expected to last a minimum of 10 months. The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile and all-terrain cranes, performing lifting, moving, positioning, and placement of materials and equipment on construction sites. This role requires strict adherence to safety standards, including ensuring all loads are properly rigged, secured, and balanced before lifting or lowering. The successful candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of crane operating systems, onboard computer software, and load management controls.

In addition to crane operations, the Crane Operator will support the construction crew with general project activities as needed when crane work is not actively being performed. The ideal candidate is a team player with a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

9. Load or unload bundles, equipment or materials to/from trucks; move bundles, equipment or materials to storage or work areas using material handling equipment.
10. Material handling and storage; heavy lifting (50-90 lbs), pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, walking, reaching and balancing for long periods; perform strenuous physical labor under field conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge of how to inspect crane for safety issues daily.
2. Skilled in determining if any parts are malfunctioning.
3. Knowledge of iPad technology to complete and upload job tickets, trip sheets and other necessary paperwork.
4. Ability to inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables as needed.
5. Skilled in cleaning, lubricating and maintaining mechanisms such as cables, pulleys or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.
6. Ability to judge depth perception of several objects to determine distance.
7. Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
8. Good working knowledge of rigging setup, signals and repair.
9. Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in basic construction.
10. Review daily work schedules to determine and prioritize workload.
11. Apply safe shut-down and securing procedures.
12. Able to climb and work safely at heights; hear/see/understand instructions from the ground.
13. Ability to work safely in tight, restricted spaces.
14. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete daily activities according to work schedules.

Work Context

1. Attend work as scheduled.
2. Regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.
3. Must be able to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and reach; lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object. (Occasionally lift 90 lbs., frequently lift 50 lbs.)
4. Requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination.
5. The ability to time movements or the movement of equipment in anticipation of changes in speed or direction of a moving object.
6. The noise level is generally loud.
7. Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
8. Excellent stamina is required.

Education, Training and Experience

1. High School graduate or G.E.D.
2. Crane Operators & Riggers: 1 year (Preferred)

Special Requirements

1. Valid driver’s license required. CDL Class A preferred.
2. NCCCO Certified boom truck and all-terrain operator required.
3. Must pass PPPO, General Physical and Drug Screen.
4. Must be 18 years old or older.
