Job summary

Midwest Overhead Crane is seeking a Mechanical Field Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain overhead cranes and lifting equipment at customer sites. You will work independently and with technicians and engineers to ensure safe, reliable operation.

The role requires a high school diploma, 3+ years in industrial maintenance or crane service, ability to read blueprints, and strong problem-solving. Travel and overtime may be required; OSHA safety standards apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, crane service, or related field (equivalent military experience considered).
  • Experience troubleshooting/mechanical or electrical equipment; welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Description
Job Summary:

The Mechanical Field Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining overhead cranes and related lifting equipment at customer facilities. Working independently and alongside other technicians and project engineers, this role performs preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on overhead cranes and related equipment at customer facilities.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems with equipment in heavy industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • Work as a team with other technicians and project engineers to perform major installations, upgrades, and modifications.
  • You will be trained to perform documented safety inspections of specific types of equipment in keeping with OSHA guidelines.
  • Perform scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in accordance with applicable guidelines, consulting with customers regarding all noted deficiencies and completing all required paperwork.
  • Responsible for documentation of hours, services performed, writing service acknowledgments, and working with computers.
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance, manufacturing, construction, crane service, or related field; equivalent military experience will be considered.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and/or electrical equipment; welding experience is preferred for applicable positions.
  • Experience as a crane technician, millwright, ironworker, industrial electrician, maintenance technician, or similar trade is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and work instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and the ability to complete electronic service reports and documentation.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards and is eligible for coverage under the company vehicle insurance policy.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including overnight travel, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and emergency service calls, when needed.
  • Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in indoor and outdoor industrial environments under varying weather and operating conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with heavier lifting performed using appropriate equipment or team assistance.
  • Commitment to working safely and following OSHA, ANSI, ASME, CMAA, NFPA, and all applicable company safety policies and procedures.
