Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Centrifugal Service Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain centrifugal and related air systems at customer sites across the United States. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and 3+ years of hands-on experience, with proficiency in reading drawings and using diagnostic tools.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair centrifugal compressors, compressed air systems, and related equipment at customer locations nationwide.
  • Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, and controls diagnostics using precision measuring instruments, technical drawings, wiring schematics, and OEM documentation.
  • Lead equipment start-ups, major overhauls, upgrades, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs to maximize equipment reliability and performance.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor by providing customers with equipment assessments, operational recommendations, technical training, and exceptional service support.
  • Accurately document service activities, technical findings, labor, parts usage, expenses, and recommendations while ensuring timely submission of all required reports and records.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety standards and customer site requirements while effectively managing travel schedules, customer commitments, and ongoing technical training and development.

Job Overview The Centrifugal Service Technician is a highly skilled field-based technical professional responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining Ingersoll Rand centrifugal and reciprocating compressor systems. This role primarily supports our Centac® and Turbo Air® product lines, along with dryers, cooling towers, filtration systems, and associated compressed air equipment. As a trusted technical advisor, you will work directly with customers across a variety of industrial environments, providing hands-on service, start-up support, diagnostics, major overhauls, and technical training. Successful candidates possess strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced field service environment.

  • Minimum 3 + years of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial or commercial mechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Experience working independently in customer-facing service environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, mobile devices, and digital reporting systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI in the previous 5 years, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Electronic Technology, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience servicing centrifugal compressors, rotary screw compressors, compressed air systems, industrial controls, PLCs, motor controls, refrigeration systems, cooling towers, and air treatment equipment.
  • EPA 608 Certification or equivalent refrigeration certification preferred.
  • Military mechanical, electrical, or technical experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform equipment startups, advanced troubleshooting, and major overhauls in an industrial field service environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work safely around industrial machinery and energized systems, perform physical activities including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing, work in varying environmental conditions, and travel extensively throughout the United States.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
  • Monday - Friday travel, home for the weekends is typical.

Pay Range The total pay range for this role, not including incentive opportunities, is $75,000 - $120,000. The pay range takes into account a wide range of factors that include a candidate's skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location. Hired applicant will be eligible to receive (discretionary/nondiscretionary) annual bonuses and incentive compensation.
