Job summary

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is seeking a Child Protective Investigations Specialist I/II to join the CPI team in Austin. Investigators respond to abuse/neglect reports, conduct interviews, assess child safety, and determine if services are needed to protect children.

The role requires navigating crisis situations, coordinating with law enforcement and medical professionals, and working flexible hours including evenings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education or experience in social services.
• Experience in social/human/protective services is preferred.
• Ability to use a computer and basic software for documentation.

Responsibilities

• Responds quickly in crisis situations involving children who may be in danger.
• Conducts forensic investigations of reports of abuse/neglect.
• Observes children for signs of harm and assess whether it is from abuse or neglect.
• Interviews families, reporters, and professionals involved in cases.
• Assesses safety needs and may remove a child from the home when necessary.
• Documents information and completes forms accurately and timely.
