Job summary

Mississippi Today, a Pulitzer Prize–winning newsroom focused on investigative journalism, is expanding its Courts and Justice coverage to examine how court decisions and legal structures affect Mississippi communities.

The Courts and Justice Reporter will cover state and federal courts, conduct in-depth interviews, file public records requests, analyze data, and tell timely accountability stories across daily and long-form formats, in collaboration with our newsroom colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a reporter in a newsroom, preferably 4+ years, with accountability journalism.
  • Proficiency in public records requests.
  • Proficiency with backgrounding, sensitive interviews, and ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Report on state and federal courts with accountability focus.
  • Develop quick-turn daily stories and long-form narratives.
  • Collaborate with the Audience, data and visual teams to present stories.
