Job summary

The State of Delaware is seeking a supervisory Court Security Officer responsible for protecting state court facilities, staff, and visitors. This role includes leading security staff, enforcing courtroom policies, and coordinating with law enforcement.

The position requires extensive knowledge of courtroom procedures, safety protocols, and incident response. The incumbent will monitor security equipment, perform searches, and assist with ADA accommodations while maintaining detailed records.

Qualifications

• Possession of an associate’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science or related field.
• Two years’ security experience providing protective services to persons, facilities or grounds.
• One year of experience ensuring compliance with courtroom safety and security laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, or procedures.
• One year of experience in courtroom procedures such as seating, swearing in of witnesses, presenting and marking evidence; knowledge of legal terminology.
• One year of experience in narrative report writing.
• Coursework/training/work supervision experience may include leading others.

Responsibilities

• Enforces safety, security, and orderliness of courtrooms and property following policies and procedures.
• Observes behavior to de-escalate potentially disruptive situations and responds to emergencies.
• Inspects court facilities for explosives/weapons and searches entrants; confiscates weapons/contraband and handles evidence.
• Sets up and operates CCTV, paging, radios, and other security systems and devices.
• Directs individuals in court proceedings and assists with ADA accommodations and defendant check-ins.
• Completes department-approved security and weapons certifications and training.
• Maintains records of proceeding events (opening statements, witnesses, examinations, etc.).
• Coordinates with law enforcement and state agencies for searches and handcuffing defendants.
