Job summary

Walden Security is seeking experienced Court Security Officers (CSOs) to provide armed security for courthouses under the USMS contract. Responsibilities include entrance control, roving patrols, stationary posts, escort duties, traffic control, and enforcing federal law within court facilities.

Qualified candidates will have a GED or higher, at least three years of verifiable law-enforcement or military security experience, and valid driver’s license along with DOJ clearance.

Job description

Walden Security is currently recruiting experienced Court Security Officers (CSOs). CSOs will provide armed security to courthouses under the United States Marshals Service (USMS) contract.

Responsibilities

• Entrance control: Enforce the District’s entry and identification system, including operating security screening equipment to detect weapons, contraband, and prohibited items, and checking items such as handbags, briefcases, computers, packages, baby carriages, wheelchairs, etc.
• Roving patrol: Patrol court facilities and grounds of the facility in accordance with applicable post orders.
• Stationary post assignments: Stand guard at stationary posts, monitoring closed‑circuit television, duress alarm systems and other security equipment, courtrooms, judge chambers, and jury rooms.
• Escort duties: Provide armed escort services for judges, court personnel, jurors, and other designated individuals when directed.
• Garage parking and pedestrian control: Direct traffic and control lights on court facility properties, as described in the post orders and/or standard operating procedures.
• Enforce law and order: Enforce federal law while performing assigned duties, detaining any person attempting to gain unauthorized access to government property or a court proceeding, or attempting to commit acts that imperil the safety and security of government employees, property, and the public.
• Prepare reports and records: Prepare various reports and records regarding contract performance issues, such as labor hours worked, accidents, fire, bomb threats, unusual incidents, or unlawful acts that occurred within the court facility area.
• Court attendance: Secure unattended courtrooms, inspect courtrooms prior to a proceeding, test security devices, and perform other duties concerning the security of the court area.
• Preserve order: Provide security presence in the courtroom, enforce federal law and judicial orders within the courtroom, enforce local court rules regarding prohibited items, and protect court proceedings as circumstances dictate.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• At least three (3) calendar years of verifiable experience as a certified law‑enforcement officer or with military equivalency (Master‑at‑Arms, CGPD, Security Forces Specialist, etc.), all within the last seven (7) years, and must have included general arrest authority.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, and to understand, explain, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, directives, and procedures.
• Valid driver’s license from state of residency and a safe driving record for the past five years.
• Clearance from the Department of Justice.
• Completion or graduation from a certified federal, state, county, local, or military law‑enforcement training academy, with certification proof.
• Minimum age of 21 years.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
• Meet medical standards specified by the USMS; reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
