Job summary

Buncombe County Government is seeking a Court Enforcement Deputy to maintain safety and order in the courthouse, protect judges, jurors, court staff, and the public. The role acts as court bailiff, provides security, serves subpoenas and warrants, and escorts inmates as needed.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma, 21 years old, NC-certified law enforcement officer, and a valid NC driver’s license. This is an internal-external posting with a non-negotiable pay range.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
• Certification as a law enforcement officer per North Carolina standards.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as court bailiff for District and Superior Court to maintain order in court.
• Provide security for courthouse and courtroom participants.
• Sequester and monitor juror needs, comforts, and security.
• Serve criminal warrants; complete arrest sheets with identification details; serve subpoenas and bonds.
• May escort to Clerk’s office for banking; prepare release orders and inmates’ bond sheets.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
