  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.

Position Highlights

The Washington County Circuit Court in Hillsboro, Oregon, is hiring a Verification Specialist (Court Operations Associate).

In this role, you will check in individuals for their court appearances and help customers who need court-appointed counsel with their paperwork. You will review applications for accuracy and completeness and will conduct brief financial interviews. You will determine eligibility for court-appointed counsel, research potential attorney conflicts, and assign court-appointed attorneys based on availability and case type. You will prepare orders and forms for making recommendations to the court. You will also work closely with the public, defendants, and local indigent defense firms.

You will perform data entry, scan documents, and report defendant check-in information to the court. You will also provide coverage for the Traffic and Violation Unit by accepting traffic pleas, entering dispositions, and assessing and collecting traffic fines.

Additionally, you will provide customer service at a public counter, where you will answer questions about court appearances and court appointed attorney assignments and will verify payments and balances for criminal and traffic cases. You will process payments made in person, over the phone, and by mail, including receipting and entering data into the case management system and the point-of-sale program. Each day, you will prepare a bank deposit slip, balance the cash drawer, and turn in all cash, checks, and other payments for deposit or nightly storage in the court safe.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

AND At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.

OR Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule currently is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per workweek.
  • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment, and the person in this position must be able to prioritize the workload to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma, including people who are angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
  • Long periods of sitting while working at a computer.
  • Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
