Job summary

County of San Mateo is seeking an Emergency Management professional to lead the countywide alert and warning program, coordinating 32 agencies to ensure timely, accurate, and actionable alerts across languages and jurisdictions.

The role includes training, exercises, staff the EOC, and serving on a rotational on-call roster during disasters. You will translate urgency into direction with clarity, and help shape One County, One Voice crisis communications.

Qualifications

• Experience coordinating across multiple agencies and jurisdictions.
• Ability to translate urgency into clear, actionable guidance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead countywide alert and warning programs and develop standard operating procedures.
• Develop, review, and issue emergency alerts calibrated for threat and audience.
• Train and sustain users on alerting platforms and conduct exercises.
• Staff the Emergency Operations Center during activations and on-call rotations.
• Write guides, memos, talking points, and public education material.
