Job summary

Oklahoma State University Extension educators serve as the front door to the University, linking OSU to the people of Oklahoma across all 77 counties. This role focuses on disseminating research‑based information in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4‑H youth development, and community and rural development.

This position is located in the Muskogee County Extension Office and emphasizes family and consumer sciences leadership (about 90%) with ~10% support for 4‑H youth programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health-related field.
  • Certifications within two years if no FCS degree: two education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management), pass APK and FCS OSAT.
  • If education degree but no FCS degree, provide PPAT or APK results.
  • With FCS certified and three years teaching, may have no extra requirements beyond degree.
  • Starting salary is based on education and prior relevant work experience.

This position is located in the Muskogee County Extension Office, Muskogee, OK. Position provides leadership to family and consumer sciences (FCS) and supports the 4-H youth development programs with approximately 90% of time spent in FCS and 10% of time spent in 4-H youth development work. Participates as a cohesive OSU Extension team member to involve local clientele and advisory groups to plan, implement, and evaluate the total county program. Due to communication expectations of the position, the incumbent will be required to maintain cellular or other electronic communication device. The incumbent’s salary includes compensation to apply toward the use of their personal cellular device.

Extension educators comply with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, etc., related to equal opportunity, civil rights, and affirmative action. Extension educators are hired into the organization not into a specific geographic location. It is possible that future circumstances may require relocation.

Base annual salary for entry level educators who have a bachelor's degree is $45,000 and a master's degree $51,000. Starting salary is based upon education and prior relevant work experience. Extension educators hired with only a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to work toward completion of an approved master’s degree.

Continuation of employment is based upon need, performance and available county funding.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or similar health-related field For candidates without a degree in FCS, must be able to successfully obtain the noted certifications below within two years of employment: (certification expenses not covered by employer)

No FCS or Education Degree

Take two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management)

Within two years, must pass APK and FCS OSAT

No FCS Degree, but an Education Degree

Provide proof of passing PPAT or APK

No FCS Degree, but Alternatively Certified in FCS and three years teaching

No special requirements

(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Valid Drivers License. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work is desirable.
