Job summary

Fort Bend County seeks an experienced attorney to represent the county in general civil matters with a focus on non-litigation duties. You will draft and review contracts, agreements, and real estate documents and respond to public information requests, exercising independent judgment in legal matters.

The role requires a Juris Doctor and Texas bar admission, plus at least four years of related experience; government and real estate experience is desirable. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Jurisprudence; licensed to practice by the Texas Supreme Court.
• At least 4 years of related experience; government and real estate experience desirable.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, elected officials and department directors/managers.

Responsibilities

• Represents Fort Bend County in general civil matters/civil actions, not litigation, as required.
• Drafts and reviews legal documents such as contracts, agreements and resolutions and may participate in negotiations related to such documents.
• Conducts legal research.
• Drafts and reviews documents related to real estate transactions.
• Issues legal opinions to elected officials and directors/managers.
• Responds to requests for information under the Texas Public Information Act.
• Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
