Job summary

Higginbotham Brothers is seeking a Counter Sales Representative to assist customers and contractors with over-the-counter orders, quotes, and payments in a retail setting. You will help with product selection, create invoices, process payments, and maintain showroom inventory while supporting yard/warehouse tasks as needed.

The role requires friendly customer service, basic math, and the ability to multi-task across sales and related store duties. A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interact positively with customers; respond to questions regarding merchandise, pricing, promotions, and deliveries.

• Create invoices, work orders and sales tickets; code and enter orders, pricing information and other data into the computer system.
• Maintain showroom appearance and stock levels; assist with yard and warehouse operations and basic tasks like cutting keys or painting.
• Attend trainings and meetings to expand product knowledge and perform location-specific services as needed.

Job description

Higginbotham Brothers dates to 1881, when the company opened its first general store in Texas. Today, Higginbotham Brothers supplies professional builders, remodelers and do-it-yourselfers with lumber and a deep catalog of specialty building products, including hardware, windows, doors, plumbing materials and interior/exterior paint, from its 40 locations across Texas and Oklahoma.

A Brief Overview

The Counter Sales Representative is responsible for assisting customers and contractors with the sales process by taking orders over the counter, answering questions, and receiving payment for customer orders. This position typically works in a retail environment.

What You Will Do

• Greet and interact positively with customers; respond to questions regarding merchandise, product location, pricing, promotions, product selection, order placement, quotations, complaints, and scheduling of deliveries and installations, and provide customer follow-up as needed.
• Facilitate product selection for scheduled and walk-in showroom customers, using appropriate forms and processes to ensure consistent and accurate records of selections.
• Process customer sales through the cash register, receiving payment by cash, check, credit card, voucher, automatic debit, or other approved methods in accordance with company procedures; maintain proper cash levels and compute and record transaction totals.
• Create accurate and complete invoices, work orders, and sales tickets; code and enter customer orders, pricing information, and other required data into the computer system, and issue refunds or credits with manager approval when necessary.
• Purchase special-order products and obtain information regarding product pricing, specifications, uses, and availability.
• Maintain the appearance, organization, and physical integrity of the showroom, including doors, floors, windows, ceilings, restrooms, and workstations; clean and dust products and displays, maintain stock levels on the sales floor and in the stockroom, and assist with physical inventory.
• Bag, box, wrap, and prepare merchandise and customer packages as necessary.
• May assist with yard and warehouse operations, including receiving, returns, stocking, and organization, and may safely operate forklifts, company vehicles, and other material handling equipment after completing required training and authorization, in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
• Attend assigned training and meetings to maintain and expand knowledge of the full product offering and may perform location-specific services as needed, including cutting keys, mixing paint, and cutting glass.
• May be required to safely operate forklifts, company vehicles, and other material handling equipment after completing required training and authorization, in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
• May assist with yard and warehouse operations, including receiving, returns, stocking, and organization.
• May perform location-specific services as needed (including cutting keys, mixing paint, and cutting glass).

Education Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Should be familiar with computer, printer, telephone, copy machine, fax machine, engineer’s scale/ruler, mechanical tools, inventory, and inventory control.
• Must be able to drive and walk throughout yards, plants and offices, computer literate with Microsoft Office products and Trend system.
• Ability to work Saturday and evening schedules as required.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record may be required based on location and job responsibilities.
