Job summary

Holland America-Princess (Holland America Dawson City Inn) in Fairbanks, AK is seeking a school counselor to support students’ academic, personal/social, and career development needs. You will help students with problem solving, decision making, and coping skills, with emphasis on prevention and crisis response.

The role requires a Alaska Type C Special Service certificate with endorsement in school counseling, and relevant experience at the appropriate grade level.

Qualifications

• This position requires a Type C Special Service certificate with endorsement in school counseling.
• Experience at the appropriate grade level, including teaching, counseling, practicum, or related work.
• Knowledge of Section 504/ADA regulations and district procedures for referral, evaluation, and accommodation.
• Knowledge of instructional content, curriculum, and instructional methods.

Job description

Job Summary:

Counselors provide services to students in three major areas: academic, personal/social, and career development. Counselors assist students with individual problem solving, decision making, and coping skills. While emphasis is on prevention, counselors may also deal with crisis intervention.

Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a State of Alaska Type C Special Service certificate with an endorsement in school counseling
• Must have recent experience at the appropriate grade level, this experience may include teaching experience, counseling, completion of a practicum, or other relevant educational or employment experiences
• Must be aware of regulations in effect regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973/ADA relating to students with disabilities, and district procedures for referral, evaluation, and accommodation
• Must possess some knowledge of content, curriculum, methods and materials of grade level(s) of instructional specialty(ies)
• Good knowledge of child growth and development
• Some knowledge of school program studies related to assignments
• Ability to utilize multimedia and computer technology as appropriate
• Ability to utilize positives and effective student discipline procedures
• Abilityto establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and community members
• Skills in oral and written communication
• Excellent human relations skills
