The School, founded in 1969, is a proud member of AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland Schools), and NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools).Opening: Upcoming School Year, 2026-2027School Counselor, Full-time, 10 months, Exempt (salaried)Annual Salary Range $60,000 - $70,000 Barnesville School of Arts and Sciences (PK3 - Grade 8) is seeking a dynamic professional to serve as the School Counselor. Reporting to the Assistant Head, the Counselor will provide counseling support to students, as well as guidance and general support to faculty and parents. The Counselor is expected to be present on-site during the normal school day and available to attend afternoon/evening meetings as necessary.Job Responsibilities Include

  • Student support and intervention as well as providing referrals and acting as a liaison between outside mental health providers and the School.
  • Developing and implementing student programs and curriculum for social and emotional learning; working with the Assistant Head to prioritize areas of professional development for faculty and staff; and identifying and communicating available resources for parent education opportunities.
  • Be fully engaged in the life and mission of the school, in and out of the classroom.
  • Lead or take part in enrichment classes, school committees, after school activities, and athletic teams as required.
  • Attend afternoon/evening meetings as necessary.
Education and Experience: Qualified candidates will have a master's degree and L.C.S.W. or equivalent certification is required along with a minimum of 3 years of student counseling experience. The ideal candidate will have clinical experience with varying adolescent mental health issues such as personal identity, conflict resolution and crisis intervention; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to establish trust and credibility; and a high level of cultural competency and commitment to Diversity Equity and Inclusion work.Physical Requirements: Daily desk work, including significant amounts of telephone and computer time; as part of daily routines, the ability to move around a mid-size campus with uneven pavement and manage stairs; frequent walking inside and outside responding to campus issues and/or checking on various departmental progress.Commitment to Diversity: In a world of shared borders, knowledge and empathy for multiculturalism are essential to a Barnesville School education.
