Job summary

GEICO seeks an experienced Counsel to defend lawsuits in Texas courts as part of GEICO Staff Counsel in Houston, TX. The role covers researching applicable laws, drafting briefs and memoranda, and managing pleadings and discovery through trial.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of insurance defense/personal injury litigation, a JD, and active Texas Bar admission in good standing. Travel to trials and depositions is required; strong written work is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Texas Bar admission required; must be in good standing.
• Able to travel to trials, hearings, depositions and conferences.
• Clear, concise, professional written documentation.

Responsibilities

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery through trial and dispositive hearings.
• Defend by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable to assigned matters.
