Overview

The Cotton Gin Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and productivity of the cotton gin. The position provides hands‑on leadership for gin employees while ensuring cotton is processed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with quality standards. The Superintendent works closely with producers, management, seasonal employees, vendors, and maintenance personnel to support successful ginning operations throughout the season and coordinate repairs and improvements during the off‑season. The role is classified as non‑exempt (hourly) and is expected to work extended hours during peak harvest and ginning seasons, including night shifts at times.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Operations Management
  • Supervise daily cotton ginning operations
  • Monitor production flow and operational efficiency
  • Ensure cotton is processed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards
  • Monitor bale quality, moisture levels, fiber quality, and overall gin performance
  • Adjust operational processes as necessary to maximize production and quality
  • Coordinate daily workflow and employee assignments
Equipment and Maintenance
  • Oversee operation of all gin equipment
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance needs
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues to minimize downtime
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance activities
  • Manage off‑season repair projects and equipment improvements
  • Assist with equipment evaluations and future capital improvement recommendations
  • Maintain familiarity with Gentry Controls, Lummus gin stands, lint cleaners, and Continental press systems
Leadership and Employee Development
  • Lead, coach, and train gin operators and support staff
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training seasonal employees
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence
  • Ensure employees receive required safety and operational training
  • Provide ongoing instruction regarding equipment operation and safe work practices
Safety and Compliance
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Cotton Ginners Association safety standards
  • Administer and enforce lockout/tagout procedures
  • Support fall protection and confined space safety requirements
  • Conduct safety inspections and address identified hazards
  • Participate in accident investigations and corrective action planning
  • Foster a culture of safety throughout the operation
Inventory and Resource Management
  • Monitor inventory of gin supplies, repair parts, and operating materials
  • Coordinate purchasing requests and supply needsMaintain positive working relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Assist management with budgeting and resource planning
Facility Oversight
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the gin, warehouses, seed house, and surrounding property
  • Ensure facilities remain safe and operational
Communication and Collaboration
  • Work closely with producers, management, truck drivers, warehouse personnel, and seasonal staff
  • Maintain effective communication regarding production goals, repairs, safety concerns, and operational needs
  • Assist management in evaluating workflow improvements and operational efficiencies
  • All other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

The position requires extreme temperatures, ability to climb ladders, inspect equipment, enter operation areas, lift up to 50 lbs, extend hours during harvest, dust and noise exposure, outdoor/ag facility conditions. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must maintain emotional control under stress.
