Job summary

FYZICAL Kids in Durham, NC seeks a pediatric COTA to provide hands-on occupational therapy across clinic, home, and classroom environments. The role focuses on assessing needs, creating effective treatment plans, educating families, and ensuring progress with documentation and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of pediatric COTA experience preferred; newer practitioners welcome.
• Proficiency in documentation: medical necessity, justification of need, efficient coding, client results.
• Familiarity with SPD/ASD/dev delays and feeding is preferred.
• Degree from an accredited OTA program is required.
• Current NC licensure or active licensure process is required.
• Background check through DCDEE; CPR certification.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a regular, consistent work schedule to support client outcomes.
• Assess patient needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide hands-on therapy in clinic, homes, classrooms, and natural settings.
• Educate clients and families on therapeutic techniques and home program carryover.
• Monitor progress, document outcomes, and adjust plans of care as needed.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
• Stay updated on current pediatric OT research and practices.
• Complete required paperwork promptly.
• Collaborate with teammates to optimize client outcomes and maintain high energy.

This position requires working with pediatric early intervention clients and their families.

Expectations:

Maintain a regular and consistent work schedule to ensure optimal client outcomes

Assist with assessing patient needs and developing appropriate treatment plans

Provide hands-on therapy in our clinic, as well as in homes, classrooms, and other natural environments

Educate clients and their families on proper therapeutic techniques and carryover of home programs

Monitor and document client progress, and recommend adjustments to POCs as necessary

Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, as appropriate, to ensure comprehensive care

Stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in occupational therapy techniques for treating pediatric conditions

Ensure timely completion of paperwork

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years of experience as a pediatric COTA is highly preferred, but newer practitioners and/or clinicians who are newer to this setting are also welcome to apply!

Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in documentation, including justification of therapeutic need, medical necessity, efficient coding, and client results.

Familiarity with therapeutic treatment techniques for SPD, ASD, common developmental diagnoses, and feeding is strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

Degree from an accredited OTA program

Valid NC licensure as an OTA (or in the process of obtaining NC licensure)

Current background check through DCDEE (or willing to obtain prior to beginning work)

CPR certification

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
