CNH Industrial is seeking a Cost Optimization Engineer in Oak Brook, IL, to drive margin improvements across mechanical, powertrain, metallic and electrical commodities. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Purchasing, Logistics and Suppliers to screen, prioritize and execute cost-reduction initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Cost Optimization engineer for multiple commodity clusters and identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Prioritize cost-saving opportunities and build a roadmap to support annual purchasing targets.
• Lead ideation, benchmarking, and workshops to drive cost-down strategies.
• Develop and apply cost modeling tools to analyze components and support sourcing decisions.
• Collaborate with Product Development, Purchasing, Logistics and other functions to ensure timely delivery and measurable impact.
• Provide technical leadership in VA/VE activities with internal and external stakeholders.
• Challenge designs, materials, processes and technology choices to optimize costs while maintaining quality.
• Review product designs to ensure commercially optimized solutions across commodity groups.

Job Purpose

The Cost Optimization Engineer is a key role to drive and implement company margin improvement goals. The individual will work closely with mechanical, powertrain, metallic, electrical and chemical commodity cross‑functional teams (Product Development, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Logistics, Commercial, Services) and suppliers to screen, track, implement cost Optimization projects, promote internal and external idea generation activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Cost Optimization engineer for mechanical, powertrain, metallic, electrical and chemical commodities, working closely with the team to identify, prioritize, and execute cost reduction initiatives across various commodity clusters.
• Proactively identify and prioritize cost‑saving opportunities, building a forward‑looking project roadmap to support annual purchasing targets.
• Manage ideation and benchmarking activities, including workshops, line walks, and competitive analysis to drive innovative cost‑down strategies.
• Develop and apply analytical cost modeling tools to analyze components across commodities, including Sheetmetal and welded parts, hydraulic system components, and electronic components, support sourcing decisions and supplier negotiations.
• Support the execution of cost reduction projects by partnering with cross functional teams such as Product Development, Purchasing, Logistics, and other business functions to ensure timely delivery and measurable impact.
• Provide technical leadership in Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Challenge existing product designs, material specifications, manufacturing processes, and technology selections to identify opportunities for cost optimization while maintaining performance, quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with engineering teams to review product designs and specifications across commodity groups, ensuring commercially optimized solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with roles in purchasing, design engineering, cost management, quality or related functions.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience leading or managing product development and cross‑functional projects.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, technical specifications, electrical schematics, and wire harness layouts.
• Hands‑on experience with mechanical and metallic systems, including component design, manufacturing processes, should‑cost analysis, supplier engagement, and commercial negotiations.
• Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional teams and drive projects from concept through implementation.

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is USD $63,750.00 - $97,750.00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
