Job summary

Toscano Clements Taylor (TCT) is seeking a Cost Estimator II to prepare budgets, estimates, and pre-bid packages for design and construction projects in a hybrid New York–area environment.

You will develop cost estimates from conceptual phases through construction documents, interact with clients and vendors, and contribute to accurate, timely project costing. This role offers growth within a collaborative firm focused on precision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management preferred.
  • Some experience working as a cost estimator, demonstrated through an internship or prior work experience.
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff, E-Takeoff, MII, and Sage.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with the capability to analyze complex situations and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; proficient in MS Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate development: analyze drawings and data to prepare estimates for time, cost, materials, and labor.
  • Cost analysis and monitoring: track actual costs against bids and provide updates.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: consult with clients, vendors, internal teams, and construction personnel to formulate estimates.
  • Maintain professional communication with colleagues, clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors regarding updates and changes.
  • Gather information from various sources and escalate issues to supervisors for resolution.

Essential Functions
  • Estimate Development: Analyze construction drawings, documentation, and relevant data to prepare accurate estimates for time, cost, materials, and labor, subject to review by a Senior Estimator. Support project management by preparing estimates that align with project goals for planning, scheduling, and organizing work.
  • Cost Analysis and Monitoring: Assess cost-effectiveness by tracking actual costs against initial bids throughout the project lifecycle, providing updates and adjustments as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Consult with clients, vendors, internal teams, and construction personnel to discuss and formulate estimates, address project concerns, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, professional communication with colleagues, clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to discuss updates, changes, and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Information Gathering & Problem-Solving: Take initiative to collect relevant information from various sources, proactively identify potential challenges, and elevate issues to supervisors for resolution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management preferred.
  • Experience Requirement: Must have some experience working as a cost estimator, demonstrated through an internship or prior work experience.
  • Familiarity with Estimating Software: Ability to learn in-house estimating programs such as On-Screen Takeoff, E-Takeoff, MII, and Sage.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capability to analyze complex situations and propose effective solutions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Excel, for data analysis, reporting, and project management purposes.
