Qualifications

Job description

My client is looking in Southern California for a Cost Engineer: Optimizes and controls what the work costs by developing accurate cost estimates, establishing product costs, monitoring cost performance, forecasting future costs, and identifying opportunities to reduce cost while maintaining quality and performance.

The Cost Engineer is responsible for understanding the cost drivers associated with products and manufacturing processes and providing cost analysis to support engineering, operations, sourcing, and business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for new products, existing products, and product changes.
• Analyze material, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, and other cost elements to establish and maintain accurate product standard costs.
• Collaborate with Engineering to evaluate design changes, new products, and value-engineering opportunities, including their impact on product costs.
• Review manufacturing processes, materials, and production methods to identify opportunities for cost reduction, waste elimination, and improved cost efficiency.
• Maintain and ensure the accuracy of costing databases, Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, labor standards, and other cost-related information.
• Monitor actual costs versus standard costs, budgets, and estimates; investigate significant cost variances and identify root causes.
• Develop and maintain cost forecasts and budgets and communicate changes in expected costs to relevant stakeholders.
• Support make-versus-buy, sourcing, capital investment, and other business decisions through detailed cost analysis.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Finance, and Engineering to ensure cost assumptions and data accurately reflect current manufacturing conditions.
• Identify and quantify cost-saving opportunities and support implementation of approved cost-reduction initiatives.
• Provide clear cost analysis, reporting, and recommendations to management to support product and operational decisions
