Job summary

Kokosing is seeking a Cost Engineer/Analyst to help keep projects on budget by tracking costs, forecasting financial performance, and supporting cost proposals. The role is project-based and on-site, requiring collaboration with project managers, superintendents, and the Kokosing accounting group.

The ideal candidate has a background in construction finance, 2–5 years of cost engineering or project controls experience, and proficiency with Primavera or Procore.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and track project costs, commitments, and expenditures.
• Develop and maintain project cost reports and forecasts.
• Review subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and invoices for compliance and accuracy.
• Assist in owner-required project tracking (IRA, BABA, AIS).
• Support preparation of budgets, estimates, and cost proposals.
• Analyze variances between actual and budgeted costs and provide actionable recommendations.
• Ensure financial data integrity and compliance with company policies.
• Present financial updates to stakeholders during project meetings.
• Assist in developing payment applications to the owner.
• Lead quarterly gross margin project analysis.
• Coordinate with estimating, project management, and Kokosing accounting groups.
• Develop and implement project engineering cost-control procedures.
• Standardize project accounting functions ongoingly.
• Aid in preparing accurate cost, income, and cash flow projections.
• Respond to issues quickly; multitask and solve problems.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Job Description

As a Cost Engineer / Analyst at Kokosing, you will play a critical role in ensuring our projects are delivered on budget. You will be responsible for tracking costs, forecasting, and analyzing financial performance on construction projects. Your insights will help project teams make informed decisions and drive financial success. The role will be project based and on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and track project costs, commitments, and expenditures.
• Develop and maintain project cost reports and forecasts.
• Work closely with project managers and superintendents to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Review subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and invoices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Assist in owner required project specific tracking (IRA, BABA, AIS).
• Support preparation of budgets, estimates, and cost proposals.
• Analyze variances between actual and budgeted costs and provide actionable recommendations.
• Ensure financial data integrity and compliance with company policies.
• Participate in project meetings and provide financial updates to stakeholders.
• Assist in the development of payment applications to the owner.
• Lead the quarterly gross margin project analysis effort.
• Coordinate with the estimating group, project management staff, and the Kokosing accounting group.
• Develop, implement, and administer project engineering procedures, primarily related to cost control and tracking.
• Continue ongoing efforts to standardize project accounting functions.
• Aid in the preparation of accurate and timely cost, income, and cash flow projections.
• Respond to issues quickly; proactive in problem-solving; handles multiple tasks.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, or construction accounting.
• Strong understanding of construction processes and financial principles.
• Proficient in cost management software (e.g., Primavera, Autodesk Cloud, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar) and MS Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure construction.
• Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) principles.
