Summary

Help drive strong financial performance and cost improvement at one of our processing plants. As a Cost Accountant, Plant Operations, you will manage the plant’s accounting activities in accordance with GAAP and Corporate accounting policies, delivering timely and accurate financial reporting, operations analysis, and support for the annual overhead, labor, and capital budgets. You will partner closely with the local management team, plant clerical staff, and regional accounting leadership to turn financial insight into action steps that strengthen results across the facility. This role is ideal for an analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional who communicates clearly, works collaboratively, and takes pride in accurate, accountable work in a fast-paced plant environment.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Develop and maintain proper accounting procedures and controls for a processing plant in accordance with GAAP and Company accounting policies.

Complete the annual audit plan requirements.

Prepare monthly closing activities for assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with the Company accounting calendar, including inventory control, balance sheet reconciliations, operations reporting, and analysis.

Prepare weekly profit estimates and operating statistics as required.

Work with the local management team to develop explanations, comments, and action steps for the improvement of areas with unfavorable cost.

Provide detailed analysis to the local management team that supports cost improvement within the facility.

Participate in the preparation of annual plan and capital budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.

Support the plant clerical function and become proficient in using Amino and SAP inventory functions.

Provide backup for the clerical position when on PTO.

Provide the Accounting Manager with support on ad hoc projects.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

2-3 years of related work experience.

Must possess strong math and analytical skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of GAAP.

Understanding of systems and software applications.

Knowledge of poultry or similar food processing is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.

May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.

May need to access files, supplies, and equipment.

Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.

When in a plant environment:

Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors, which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.

May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.

May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 dB to 110 db.

May be exposed to all chemicals used in a poultry and food processing facility.

Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
