Job summary

Yoh, a Day & Zimmermann company, is seeking a Cosmetic R&D Manager in Southern California to lead new formula development and reformulation efforts. You will monitor trends, oversee regulatory interactions, and collaborate with chemists and QA to ensure compliant, innovative products.

You will manage complex projects, liaise with suppliers, and guide technical writing and documentation while maintaining GLP standards in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

• Color formulation experience.
• OTC experience.
• Creative thinking, technical writing and organizational skills.
• At least 6 years and more of industry bench formulation experience.
• Knowledge of cosmetic/personal care raw materials, functionality, and interactions.
• Understanding of emulsion and surfactant technology as well as general formulation techniques.
• Familiar with regulation for US market and other countries for globally approved formulas, especially natural and organic (NSF, USDA/NOP, NPA).

Responsibilities

• Develop new formulas and reverse engineered formulas from customer briefs and price targets.
• Reformulate and improve existing formulas.
• Follow new trends with product launches, ingredients and claims (e.g., 'free from').
• Be familiar with cosmetic ingredients, their functions, delivery systems and base interactions.
• Meet with suppliers and maintain product files (clinical and regulatory).
• Work with R&D to create textures, concepts and actives for cutting-edge formulations.
• Assist regulatory by providing necessary ingredient information.
• Manage priorities and workload under tight timelines.
• Troubleshoot production or compounding and improve manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with chemists and QA to improve formulation knowledge and standards.
• Maintain GLP-compliant laboratory practices.
