Job summary

Yoh, a Day & Zimmermann company, is seeking a Cosmetic R&D Chemist in Southern California to develop and reformulate formulas for personal care products. You will stay ahead of trends, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to deliver innovative textures and formulations.

The role requires at least 6 years of bench formulation experience, color formulation expertise, and strong technical writing abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher degree in chemistry or related field.
• Color formulation experience.
• Creative thinking, technical writing and organizational skills.
• At least 6 years and more of industry experience on the bench formulating.
• Knowledge of cosmetic/personal care raw materials, functionality, and interactions.
• Understanding of emulsion and surfactant technology as well as general formulation techniques.
• Must be familiar with regulation for US market and other countries for globally approved formulas, especially for the natural and organic market (NSF, USDA/NOP, NPA).

Responsibilities

• Develop new formulas and reverse engineered formulas based on customer briefs and price targets.
• Reformulate and improve existing formulas.
• Follow new trends with product launches, ingredients and concepts like 'free from' claims.
• Familiarize with formulation restrictions for these claims.
• Be familiar with cosmetic ingredients, their function, delivery system, and media/base interactions.
• Meet with suppliers and maintain product files (clinical and regulatory).
• Work on innovation, create new textures and actives to keep R&D at the cutting edge.
• Assist with marketing sheets for innovation seminars.
• Input raw material pricing into pricing matrix and advise on testing and claims.
