Job summary

Plains, based in Midland, Texas, is seeking a Corrosion Specialist to lead and continuously improve its internal corrosion program across the Southwestern Division. You will apply regulatory knowledge, manage data, and drive corrosion-control initiatives with cross-functional teams.

The role requires executing corrosion activities, monitoring KPIs, and supporting budget planning while ensuring PHMSA and CER compliance.

Qualifications

  • AMPP Certification or willingness to obtain within 2 years.
  • Minimum of 3 years of internal corrosion experience.
  • Working knowledge of PHMSA and CER regulations.
  • Strong understanding of internal corrosion mechanisms, mitigation strategies, and program execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement, sustain, and improve plans and processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
  • Cleared criminal history check and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Drug & Alcohol Policy, including pre-employment testing.
  • Valid state driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the company and its insurers.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of employment; not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Internal Corrosion Program to ensure regulatory compliance and participate in regulatory audits.
  • Ensure execution of day‑to‑day internal corrosion activities, including chemical treatment, pigging programs, and operational parameter monitoring.
  • Utilize internal corrosion databases (CIM, Irth, and/or Maximo) to retrieve, validate, and maintain accurate program data.
  • Carry out required internal corrosion tasks and produce clear, timely reporting.
  • Make data‑driven decisions through analysis of corrosion coupons, bacteria sampling, water chemistry, pigging results, and integrity‑related inspections.
  • Monitor and communicate program KPIs, providing visibility to stakeholders on performance and execution.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Integrity, and other departments to determine effective mitigation strategies for internal corrosion threats.
  • Contribute to and steward the internal corrosion budget, ensuring responsible planning and ongoing budget management.
  • Champion the implementation of new programs, tools, and processes, ensuring consistency, adoption, and effectiveness across the division.

Plains has an immediate opening for a Corrosion Specialist based in our Midland, Texas office. Reporting to the Supervisor, Internal Corrosion, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, administering, and continuously improving the tools, processes, and programs that support Plains’ Internal Corrosion Control Program. You will serve as a subject matter expert in internal corrosion control and regulatory compliance, overseeing the Southwestern Division’s internal corrosion activities to ensure all tasks align with company standards and corrosion control procedures.
