Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Corrosion Control Technician to analyze data and maintain engineered corrosion control systems for gas distribution and transmission networks. The role emphasizes site preparation, coordination, and installation of cathodic protection systems in a safety-first environment.

Responsibilities include data analysis, troubleshooting, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Travel up to 60% within the utility service territory may be required.

Qualifications

  • Requires a two-year degree in engineering, science, PM or energy-related field with strong technical emphasis.
  • Two years of related work experience for Technician I.
  • Four years of related work experience for Technician II.
  • Prior experience with corrosion control or cathodic protection is preferred.

  • Implement approved corrosion control methods per policy and regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation including equipment calibration.
  • Troubleshoot cathodic protection systems for gas distribution and transmission.

Job description

Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others. Analyzes data and evaluates effectiveness of cathodic protection and corrosion control systems and initiates maintenance, replacements or enhancements when necessary. Responsible for the site preparation, project coordination and installation of engineered cathodic protection systems. May participate in the design of new corrosion control systems. Performs field operations and maintenance of the Company’s cathodic protection and corrosion control systems. Oversees cathodic protection and/or general corrosion surveillance by district personnel to ensure compliance with Company’s operation and maintenance policies and state and federal codes. Directly participates in facility surveillance and direct assessment/data collection. Applies basic cathodic protection techniques to complete assignments with minimal supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Corrosion Control Technician I ($30.70 - $38.38)

  • Must possess a working knowledge of gas and/or utility operations, corrosion control, or electrical systems at a level normally acquired through the completion of a two-year degree in engineering, science, project management, or energy related field with strong technical emphasis.
  • Two years’ experience in utility operations or the cathodic protection, corrosion control, electrical systems, or related technical field experience

Corrosion Control Technician II ($35.32 - $44.51)

  • Must possess a working knowledge of gas and/or utility operations, corrosion control, or electrical systems at a level normally acquired through the completion of a two-year degree in engineering, science, project management, or energy related field with strong technical emphasis.
  • Four years related work experience in utility operations, cathodic protection, corrosion control, electrical systems, or related technical field experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil or Electrical).
  • Prior engineering and/or cathodic protection experience at a natural gas utility or pipeline.
  • Prior experience with business application software such as GIS, PCS, Maximo and J.D. Edwards.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • Required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United State, no sponsorships considered.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Extensive travel, up to 60% within utility service territory is required.

Additional to the above, Corrosion Control Technician I:

  • Must hold or successfully complete NACE Cathodic Protection Tester (CP level 1) certification within one year.

Additional to the above, Corrosion Control Technician II:

  • Must hold or successfully complete AMPP Cathodic Protection Tester (CP level 1) certification within 1.5 years and a AMPP Cathodic Protection Technician (CP level 2) certification within 2.5 years from date of hire.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyzes system data to maintain engineered corrosion control systems.
  • Implements approved corrosion control methods as specified by Company policy and state and federal regulations.
  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation in accordance with Company policy and procedures, including equipment calibration.
  • Completes analyses to troubleshoot cathodic protection systems for natural gas distribution & transmission systems.
  • Responsible for data integrity and data processing integrity to, within, and from multiple applications through interface design & troubleshooting.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.

Additional to the above, Corrosion Control Technician II:

  • Develops and maintains corrosion control systems by gathering and analyzing system data and recommending and/or initiating solutions.
  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation in accordance with Company policy and procedures, including equipment calibrations.
