Qualifications

• Five years of experience in repair and servicing of refrigeration or air conditioning systems.
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training including one year of journey level work in the trade.

Responsibilities

• Teach refrigeration mechanic principles and methods in classroom and hands-on settings.
• Direct inmate work crews, assign schedules, and inspect refrigeration tasks.
• Issue, track, and inspect materials and tools to maintain safety and accountability.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports vocational training by teaching refrigeration mechanic skills in both classroom and hands-on settings. The work includes guiding students, maintaining safety, and overseeing tool and material use. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Training Instruction: Teach principles, methods, and procedures of the refrigeration mechanic trade in classroom and work settings
• Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate work crews, assign schedules, and inspect completed refrigeration tasks
• Tool Management: Issue, track, and inspect materials and tools to maintain accountability and safety
• Resource Planning: Determine needed supplies and submit purchase requests for training and repair work
• Record Maintenance: Document training progress, attendance, and details of all assigned work activities
• Safety Monitoring: Maintain order, enforce rules, and support a secure and productive learning environment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires p ossession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
