Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania invites applications for a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor at the State Correctional Institution Cambridge Springs. Qualifications

• Five years of repair/servicing refrigeration or air conditioning systems experience, or approved apprenticeship, or equivalent combination including journey-level work.
• Active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate required.

• Issue and inventory materials and tools used during training and conduct searches for accountability.
• Determine needed materials and submit purchase requests when necessary.

The Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor position with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Cambridge Springs helps build valuable skills that support secure and efficient facility operations. It strengthens daily routines at the institution by teaching important trade practices.

This position provides classroom and on‑the‑job instruction that supports inmate learning in the refrigeration mechanic trade. It maintains structure, safety, and clear expectations to ensure strong training results. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Trade Instruction: Teach standard methods and procedures for installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining refrigeration and air conditioning systems
• Curriculum Delivery: Conduct classroom lessons that follow an appropriate refrigeration mechanic curriculum
• Crew Supervision: Oversee inmate work crews and direct completion of refrigeration work orders during training
• Record Keeping: Maintain documentation of inmate attendance, training progress, assignments, and completed work
• Tool Control: Issue and inventory all materials and tools used during training and conduct searches to ensure proper accountability
• Material Planning: Determine needed materials and tools for work assignments and submit purchase requests when necessary

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirement

• This position requires possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.

Other Requirements

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
