Job summary

Seward County Detention Center is seeking a female Corrections Officer to join our team and serve the community. New starting wage is $25.50 per hour or more, depending on experience.

This entry-level position involves security and care of inmates, enforcing rules, escorting inmates, and supervising activities. It includes input into treatment through reports to counseling, medical, and supervisory staff.

Qualifications

• Must be legally able to work in the United States.
• Must be at least 19 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be jail certified or receive jail certification within one (1) year of employment; Seward County will assist uncertified applicants.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License.
• Must be fingerprinted at time of employment and clear a criminal history search.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide security and care to incarcerated individuals.
• Ensure inmate safety and enforce rules and regulations.
• Maintain order and escort inmates.
• Supervise various inmate activities and programs.
• Provide input into treatment of inmates through reporting observations to counseling, medical and supervisory staff.
