Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is hiring to support inmates with mental health needs at Kirkland GPH. The role blends clinical and security duties, including escorting and group activities under QMHP supervision.

Requires a high school diploma; a bachelor's degree in human services or criminal justice is preferred and can substitute for experience. Completion of SCDC Basic Training (8 weeks) is required on hire.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED; bachelor's degree may substitute for experience.
• A bachelor's degree in human services or criminal justice is preferred.
• SCDC requires a bachelor’s degree in human services or criminal justice field.

Responsibilities

• Assist with management of inmates with mental health concerns in restrictive housing and general population.
• Work with mental health and security staff on escort and group activities, combining security and clinical duties.
• Document and prepare written reports per mental health and security guidelines.
• Assist supervision of inmates, promoting core SCDC values.
• Under guidance of QMHP, conduct psychoeducational groups and pro-social activities.
• Assist with custody-related duties including escorting, recreation supervision, showers, cell checks, suicide watch.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Bachelor's degree in human services or criminal justice
