THE POSITION

Are you ready to use your mechanical skills as a Corrections Locksmith with the Department of Corrections? This role lets you apply hands‑on expertise to keep doors, locks, and security systems functioning safely. Your work helps maintain secure spaces for staff, inmates, and visitors at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Cambridge Springs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing locking devices and related mechanisms to support the safety of SCI Cambridge Springs. You will work with mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic systems that ensure secure operations throughout the facility. As a Corrections Locksmith, you will perform the following duties:

• Lock Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain standard and specialized locking systems
• Key Management: Create keys, log damaged or lost keys, and maintain master key sets
• Inventory Oversight: Track tools, materials, and supplies needed for work assignments
• Inmate Supervision: Oversee inmates performing non-security tasks such as moving materials or repairing door components
• Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs and documentation of repairs, inspections, and adjustments
• Safety Compliance: Search inmates and work areas for contraband and support safe operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of experience in the locksmith trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
