THE POSITION

The Corrections Food Service Instructor position at the Department of Corrections, SCI-Camp Hill offers a meaningful way to support daily operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position leads inmate workers in food service tasks and supports safe, efficient meal production at SCI-Camp Hill. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Vocational Training: Teach inmates food preparation, baking, equipment use, and safe sanitation practices
• Operational Oversight: Inspect food areas and supplies, adjust recipes, and ensure proper storage methods
• Work Supervision: Plan and review inmate assignments and maintain records of performance
• Custody Control: Maintain care, custody, and control of inmates during work activities
• Resource Management: Receive, store, and track food items and supplies using established procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
• Work hours to be determined.
  • This is shift work with rotating days off.
  • Shifts are awarded based on bidding and seniority.
  • You will have a paid lunch period.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large‑scale food production operation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
