Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s State Correctional Institution Greene seeks a Corrections Counselor 2 to provide counseling, casework, and support to inmates preparing for community re-entry. You will guide individuals through adjustment, skill development, and program referrals.

This full-time role operates 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with 40 hours weekly; telework is not available. The salary starts at $64,574 per year, with eligibility for the Commonwealth's benefits package and required

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 training program, or one year of professional counseling/casework in a correctional facility with a bachelor's degree in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree with 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training including one year of professional counseling or casework in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in related fields.

Responsibilities

• Interview inmates and provide guidance on adjustment, conflict resolution, and referrals for social, educational, and vocational growth.
• Develop and maintain records, communicate with families and agencies, and coordinate information for reintegration.
• Analyze tests, compile histories, and document evaluations to determine programming and treatment needs.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary staff to align programming, counseling, activities, and expectations that support behavioral change.
• Assist with re-entry planning, secure identification documents, and prepare reports for parole review.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides counseling, casework, and support to inmates who are adjusting to the correctional environment and preparing for community re-entry.

As a Corrections Counselor 2, you will perform the following duties:

• Inmate Counseling: Interview inmates, offer guidance on adjustment, support conflict resolution, and provide referrals for social, educational, and vocational growth
• Caseload Management: Develop and maintain records, communicate with families and agencies, and coordinate information for case planning and reintegration
• Assessment Review: Analyze tests, compile histories, and document evaluations to determine programming, risk levels, and treatment needs
• Treatment Coordination: Work with multidisciplinary staff to align programming, counseling, activities, and expectations that support behavioral change
• Parole Preparation: Assist with re-entry planning, secure identification documents, and prepare reports and recommendations for parole review

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,574.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) training program; or
• One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.

Special Requirement

• You must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.

Other Requirements

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
