Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking qualified personnel to join its classification and support teams. The role involves evaluating offender adjustment, preparing release plans, and handling a range of casework tasks in a secure environment.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or related fields.
• 30 earned college hours may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Serves on a classification team; evaluates offenders’ adjustment and release plans; makes recommendations for ORAS, Case planning, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
• Secures and verifies information from offenders about home life, family, work history, and other factors; maintains classification files.
• Assesses classification status and prepares analyses for program eligibility using AICS, RCA, and ICA instruments.
• Acts as grievance officer; processes IRRs; conducts disciplinary hearings; participates in treatment team meetings.
• Processes offenders: initial file review, protective custody assessment, enemy waivers, and enemy list updates.
• Maintains open-door policy; handles offender laundry, property, finances, mail, and notices.
• Participates in vocational, educational, and social adjustment planning; facilitates programs; reviews visiting applications; provides pre-release counseling.
• Cooperates with public/private agencies and law enforcement; arranges calls to attorneys and agencies.
• Performs work per rules; receives direction; performs other related duties as assigned.
