Job summary

CA Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation is seeking a Correctional Sergeant to supervise correctional officers and inmates, and to oversee safety, security, and daily operations of the facility. The role requires coordinating across units, maintaining order, and promoting de-escalation and staff development.

The incumbent will work with nursing and mental health staff to support the Mental Health Services Delivery System and ensure compliance with departmental policies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversee custody staff and inmates to ensure safety, security, and orderly operations across the facility.
• Coordinate with multiple units (arsernal, dining, kitchen, visiting room, control room) to maintain facility efficiency.
• Promote de-escalation techniques and foster staff development and accountability.
• Ensure staff are trained and prepared for all out-of-cell activities and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
