Job summary

The State of Indiana seeks a dedicated Correctional Sergeant to oversee the safety and supervision of inmates, staff, and the public at Indiana Women’s Prison in Indianapolis. You will ensure adherence to IDOC rules and facility procedures with firm, fair leadership and decisive decision-making in emergencies.

Role requires management of assignments, training, and performance of subordinate staff, with the daily expectation of ensuring security and order within a high‑security setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in corrections, law enforcement, or military law enforcement preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel as needed.
• Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage offender movement and meal delivery operations within the facility.
• Lead staff to maintain security and safety of offenders, buildings and grounds.
• Escort offenders to various locations for meals, medicine, work, and recreation.
• Review offender movements and rule violations, providing feedback to supervisors.
• Recruit, onboard, and train employees, set expectations, and evaluate performance.
