This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC. Avery Mitchell is a medium custody male facility. Work in this position involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer II’s in medium-custody facilities or institutions, increasing the custody and security coverage. Position reports to Correctional Lieutenant II.
Salary Grade Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00. Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
