Job summary

Iowa Medical & Classification Center (IMCC) provides security, medical, and administrative support within Iowa's correctional system. The Security Controls/Control Center Operations role handles monitoring, door control, alarms, and communications across the facility.

Facility and perimeter patrols ensure safety and order, while transportation and escort duties connect inmates with on- and off-site activities.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.
• A background investigation check.
• A post-offer health screen administered by an institutional physician.
• A urinalysis screen for drugs.
• All new employee training during the probationary period, including local orientation, new employee orientation, and emergency preparedness training.
• Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain a Commercial Driver's License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Monitor keys, radios and other security equipment, fire systems, distress calls, and control interior/exterior door locks; operate security systems and devices.
• Patrol facilities, conduct rounds, counts, and searches for safety/security deficiencies and contraband.
• Perimeter patrol to ensure fence security, monitor traffic, and coordinate with staff; includes weapons post responsibilities.
• Transport inmates on grounds and off-grounds; escort visitors and staff; verify passes and documents.
• Through behavioral modeling and interaction, serve as a change agent to prepare incarcerated individuals for successful community reentry.
