Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections seeks dedicated staff to maintain security in correctional facilities, supervise offender movements, and enforce rules. This role offers challenging duties inside and outside the walls, with emphasis on safety and rehabilitation.

All employees must complete Basic Training, firearms and First Aid/CPR as required, and comply with post orders and state regulations. A valid driver's license is required; apply via [e-mail].

Qualifications

• Security procedures and post orders knowledge required.
• Ability to supervise offender movements and counts.
• Capable of conducting searches for contraband.
• Completes health and safety inspections and reports.
• Mandatory Basic Training completion.
• Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

Responsibilities

• Maintains security in facility posts; intervenes during emergencies or altercations and gains control of offenders.
• Supervises movement of offenders inside/outside; conducts counts; searches living quarters for contraband; escorts/transports offenders.
• Supervises offenders in housing units; during work activities; during recreational/religious activities.
• Conducts inspections for health and safety hazards; prepares reports on violations or deficiencies.
• Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper staff; promotes rehabilitation.
• Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband.
• Performs work per rules/post orders; receives general administrative direction.
• Performs other related work as assigned.
• All employees must attend and complete Basic Training classes administered by the Department of Corrections.
